    https://support.photobucket.com/hc/e...w-Photobucket-

Just got this email from photobucket.

"Photobucket has new management, and we are liberating your images!

As of today, your hosted images are live.

Photobucket has a new management team that wants to do the right thing. We are committed to earning back your trust and offering comprehensive and flexible image storage and hosting options for our customers. Weve taken your feedback and made some changes to our pricing model that allows us to offer competitively priced plans that fit the needs of all of our customers.

Today, our current customers hosted images have been restored and Photobucket is introducing a new pricing plan that is built around everyones needs.

For a limited time, we are offering a new, competitive subscription package that includes ad-free storage and 3rd party image hosting for just $1.99 per month, or $19.99 per year - "

$20/year for hosting/storage with no ads. If they had done this a year ago, they would have done great. At least all the pictures are "free" again.

FWIW, one of my old old threads seems to be showing images again. Have others confirmed?

Further confirmation of my investment thesis that companies that press their customers a little too hard either lose their business, or lose their management. (Beware, Apple...)

I got this same email from Photobucket and chuckled...

The new management part was kinda funny, but my guess is its the same management that just realized they made a colossal blunder.

They have the same problem however, and that is ultimately bandwidth costs money. Since they said they have moved towards "Ad-free" that means their business model is solely based on subscriptions now. I'm not sure $20/yr would cover their bandwidth if they are able to recover a large portion of their customer base.

I halfway wondered if this "raise your price to nosebleed- then offer a reasonable alternative" wasn't their plan all along. It's a pricing strategy that's used in business more than you would think. Now everyone out there that was used to free is "happy" to pay $20/yr because the alternative was set to $400. I'll admit it takes cojones to pull it off[]

The article I read stated their former CEO was the one with the idea to charge a mint for the formerly free priveledge of posting pictures. They have been replaced with a new CEO, and are now offering something reasonable.

However, this may go down as one of the great business blunders on the internet...the general consensus is that people are not going back.

As I said in the other thread, I hope they go bankrupt and cease to exist.

I paid. Company screwed up, hurt bottom line, and they corrected. $19.99/yr is reasonable, I am used to PB, and I have too many pictures to chance loosing; kids growing up and boat projects.

I get that, but I have not depended on PB in that capacity,so I'm good with moving on.

I agree Chuck. My first response is [email protected]#k them...but I have a lot of pictures on a few forums and hate not being able to search older threads without PB pictures. If they fold, the pictures disappear again. $20 is reasonable.

I already changed formats and I'm not changing back and I'll never pay them a dime. If My old photos show up that's fine but I won't be adding any more to their site. Had they been reasonable at first I would have paid but now way in hell after what they pulled. Screw em.
