  • First run in my new ride

So we went on our first run in the new 231 on Christmas eve. Only went 15 miles out of Ft Desoto in St. Pete following a buddy, but still had a great time. Got a few bugs to work out but nothing major anymore. Jeffdonovan stopped by the house on Sunday and chatted for a few minutes. Good to have an experienced hand and someone to fish with so close.

Fueling the day before turned out to be the saving grace for our trip. The previous owner decided not to tell me that he had sending unit troubles. The gauge sending unit was only held down with silicone. The bolts were all stripped out and the silicone was jelly. So while fueling as it was getting close to full I hear my daughter say "Why is there water coming out of the back of the boat?" I was able to limp to the house without starting a fire or loosing too much fuel to sloshing and got it all sealed up properly with bigger bolts and Permatex. Got it on an incline so any fuel would run out, and rinsed fresh water for 20 minutes. It stills smells like gas but there is no signs of it in the water that runs out of the drain.

    Back to the trip!

Couldn't ask for a better day.

Dad caught the first fish on the new vessel.

But this is what it's all about. Memories!!

Need a new low pressure oil pump but other than that I think I'm good. Seems like it is a perfect fit for our needs. I love the boat!!

Looks like you had a pretty good trip in spite of a couple bugs. It was wise to have a buddy boat out there with you. You will build confidence as you make repairs and gain time on the boat....well done...nice key west grunt. We love them..

Great Job. Looks like I will need to stop over and take a look. I am looking at going out Sunday if weather holds. I like to launch out of Johns Pass.

I'll see if I can talk my wife into going. I have to stop every 20 min and fill my oil reservoir under the hood though until my pump gets here next week LOL.

Which way are you going to run? I have not launched out of clearwater and have only a handful of numbers up that way. Mainly by the blackthron and little further west

I wish I could go too, but y'all have fun. I've got a bunch of stuff out of Clearwater but it's been 6 or 7 years since I've fished outta there. I've got a 3-5 ft ledge about a half mile from the Blackthorne that's always been pretty good.
