  • November Mangos

Headed out of Johns Pass for the search of some fish. First trip since June 24th due to boat repair.

nice afternoon but red tide was evident inshore. No live bait so off we went with Sardines, Squid, chum and live shrimp

Great Sunset offshore. This was about 15 miles out. the night was spectacular skies. Saw 8 shooting stars.

Seas where a little off forecast and we only made it to about 20 miles

about 930 pm we decided to make a 9 mile run south. the good news it was with a following sea.

This is when we started to fill the box

the ocean came alive around 4-AM and the snapper turned on. Live sardines came into the lights and a little sabiki helped capture them. As soon as they hit the bottom... bang fish on

Ended with 16 mangos, many lanes but kept 3 and some grunts. threw back several red grouper, gags as all undersized. No ARS and one large nurse shark. We filleted some grunts for bait and when cleaning the snapper one of them had the fillet fish in its stomach. make not do not waste bait.

Great ride in with a fantastic sunrise.

Whipped up some blacked fish. I was tired so it was on a skillet and not cast iron.

Good catch! Be careful to take lots of pictures for limits though. The "man" has been busy around Bunce's Pass lately. The "man" that I talked to onshore last time I made an overnighter said that as long as I could prove that the fish were caught on separate days (timestamped pictures) then they would let it pass but that's the only way. Luckily the Lane's aren't included in the 10 agg. limit. I need to get hooked up with some of you guys. I didn't realize that there were so many people on here in my back yard!

Federal limits for Mangos is 10 person. I do not stop in state waters so no worries there. Lanes and vermillion snapper do count towards the 20 fish reef aggregate. YT snapper count towards the ten snapper with the Mangos. Let me know when you want to fish.

Good greif Marc...all those regs are giving me a nosebleed.

You'd think they are trying to confuse a fella.

HAHA They regulate us to death in the good ol' sunshine state!!!! I didn't take into account Fed regs. ChuckB I'm just south of you in Polk City. I don't ever fish on the east side. Maybe I could follow one day.

ChuckB is in Mobile AL. and he has kids sports and doe snto fish. I am sure the reels have dust on them....J/K Chuck as I know all about those sports with 3 kids myself.

There are a couple Mako guys in Polk. Child-Seaport has a 25 with twins we fish on at times. We do trailer over to Canaveral for trolling. And the occasional bottom trips.

Yes the Regs get confusing. That is why I try and target fish the ones with the highest bag limit.

HAHA I got your avatar and his mixed up. Snappergapper you're the one I was talking to.

I want to learn how to troll, we always bottom fish. Only time we catch trolling fish is when a group of schoolies swim by and we throw a spoon at them. The last weekend of Red Snapper season this year we caught 4 or 5 schoolies trying to get squid down to the bottom. They were stealing bait as it was going down.

Damn...the truth hurts. I think I forgot how to fish, and I also currently have 2 Makos that are collecting dust as well.
