1990 Mako 171

Hi all,

just purchased a 1990 Mako 171 with a 2015 Mercury 90hp 4 stroke. Pretty excited about it! Will be on here randomly with questions and looking for advice. Thanks in advance!

I live in San Diego and have three small children, ages 8, 5 and 3. Looking forward to fishing local lakes, bays and kelp with them and offshore when the weather allows with friends.

First question: I'd really like to add a bow mounted trolling motor, but dont want to remove the bow rail...will it fit? Best options for a trolling motor?

Hi,

I have my trolling motor on the back of my boat. I have kids close to the age of yours (3 as well) so the rail up front is a must for me. I find the kids like to fish off the front anyway, so my Mako 15 gets pretty crowded up there. I move between the center counsel (behind it) to the back of the boat for all engine control. Works out well for me.

I'm sure others on the site can help with a bow mount though.
