  • How to determine HIN with secondary HIN under rub

I have a 1985 Mako 22 Boat. The HIN plate is worn really bad and cant see the HIN number . I located the secondary HIN Number but it is only 7 digits long. I assume the first 3 digits are MRK for Mako. how do I use this number to determine what the real HIN number is?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Did you look on the inside back of the anchor locker? There might be another one there. What state are you in? Maybe the DMV might be able to give you the number from the registration data.

There is not a number in the anchor locker. There is a number under the rub rail it is M22-2376. It was registered in the state of TN but I called them and they do not have a hull number on file.

I called Mako and they refereed me to this forum.

I was wondering if there is a way to determine the Hull # by this number that was under the rub rail?

      Thanks

I would post in the History Q&A and ask Brett aka Triplebogey who is the son of the founder of Mako Marine.

you might consider trying to rub the plate with some sort of black powder. I tried to take a pencil rubbing on a piece of paper to no avail. I used a black dry erase merker on my '73 M20 and was able to see mine enough to read the HIN.
