I just bought a 1975 Mako 17 with a 1996 Mercury 175. The boat runs fine the motor is a lil much for her but all is good mechanically on the boat. It does need a lil cosmetic TLC and I'm just looking for information on where I might could find some replacement console doors as well as the bow compartment doors and storage compartment lids. I'm wanting to ditch the wood and go with more up to date options. Thanks for all the info in advance

      Welcome Gdeen!

That is a lot of motor. I understand they shipped new with 70's, most run 90-115hps, I've got an 89 90hp on mine and it moves it quite pleasantly.

The most popular option for non wood fittings is Starboard, available at many hardware and marine stores, search this site and you may find some handy machinists who will fabricate them for you if you cannot. Being a sucker for wood, I'd be interested in you old wood parts, I'd pay shipping if you are inclined to send them.

I had a 20, and while I miss that boat, I really like the size of the 17, enjoy it!

I did mine out of 1/2" starboard. 3/4" will stick up to high.

On the large hatch at the stern I made a 3" wide center section and hinged 2 doors off of that.

I ordered the materials from said it would!d be $250 just for shipping a full sheet. So they cut the pieces to size (no Radius's) charged me like $25 and then shipped them in A much smaller box. So it was a very good deal and no slip issues.

I would stay away from Teak. Too much maintenance.

I love my old 171 angler...its just right for beaching and intercoastal fun...then on those days where the gulf is calm its a hoot.... Mine has a 90 johnson on her...but soon will be sporting a freshwater 135 merc I have been tinkerning on....never done...LOL...Starboard is a good replacement...but there is a member here who makes nice quality replacement wood hatches....

            enjoy and be safe...
