  • HIN for 1977 Mao 23 with Inboard Engine

Does anyone know if the HIN on a 1977 Mako 23 with an Inboard engine was engraved into the fiberglass of the Transom? Shouldn't the HIN for a 1977 start with the letters MRK? Thank you in advance for your reply!

yes, by federal law all boats built after 1971 have to have a unified HIN number stamped or engraved into the starboard upper rear of the transom. Yes it should have MRK as the first 3 digits identifying it as a Mako watercraft.

My 1978 was actually built in 1977 but not sold and titled until 1978 so it was titled as a 1978. It had the HIN on the starboard top of the transom just under the rubrail.
