  • New Rig ~ Jiggity Jig

Finally, brought home my new-to-me 1986 Mako 254 today and I couldn't be happier. After about a year of window shopping for the perfect hull and surfing Classicmako.com every day, I found this boat while looking for an E-Tec 250 to hang on a 231 that I thought I was going to buy, when the owner of the boat yard asked me if I wanted to buy his personal Mako.

It had been sitting for 20 years, before he pulled it out and completely redid the entire boat 3 years ago. New gas tank, all new hoses and electrical...and now the 2006 E-Tec that he had in his shop with only 440hrs on it. This thing is bomber! The engine also got the complete boatyard treatment with a new computer chip straight from Bombardier, new thermostat, and new starter.

Today I started by stripping the stickers off the hull and will begin reconditioning the gelcoat with a wet sand, compound buff, and polish finish. If all goes well, I'll be fishing by next Saturday. We'll save the major work for winter. Now, I just want to enjoy her.
