  • MAKO 241B

I just bought my first Mako Saturday. It is a 241B powered by a 225 Merc Black Max. I have owned several offshore boats before including a 27 Capehorn, 26 Regulator and a 32 Scarab Sport. I hope this mako 241B performance is similar to the 26 Regulator. It was blowing over 20 MPH in Orange Beach saturday and we could not get offshore. The Mako performed better than I thought with the Merc 225 and a 17" prop. WOT throttle at 5100 rpm was 36 MPH and cruising @ 4100 rpm was 26 MPH with 4 men aboard, but only about 60 gallons of fuel onboard. I thought the performance would be less. There was a light chop in the bay. The motor is mounted low (top hole) and I plan to raise it two notches to see if that will give me more rpm's. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Congrats on the new rig. I assume this is the boat nashsteve posted down in OBA? That is one of my favorite Mako hulls.

Thanks. I sure like your 224. The hull color would look good on the 241B. I see you live in Mobile. I live in Spanish Fort and I will be moving the boat up here to work on as soon as the trailer is repaired; new springs, hubs, tires, etc. Maybe we can get together and do some fishing this spring.

Congratulations. That is a good looking boat. I bet you do receive some increase in performance by moving the motor up. I'd also look into a wedge to get some more negative trim to help with keeping the bow down, plus it will set it back just a hair.

Maybe we will see you at the Destin Funament in June???

It is the annual Mako gathering in Destin. [8D]. Lots of fun, great prizes and lasting friendships. Very family friendly and prizes for all the kids.
