  • gas tank on 261 mako

i have 1989 261 mako. gas tank was cleaned and flushed 1 year ago. They said the inside had very few water spot etching on the inside of the tank. how long should this tank last?

It's the outside of the tank that is a concern. The foam encapsulation causes corrosion and pitting. Honestly, you're at the limits of the usual life cycle of original tanks.

Some tanks rot in 8years, others go in 28years....no way to tell what the life WILL be, it all depends on how the coffin is sealed, water intrusion, geographical location ate. The only way to know for sure, is have a pro do a pressure test on it. This is not something you want to do on your own unless you know exactly what psi and all the steps to take to keep from ruining a good tank.
