    I am in the process of rebuilding a '76 23, details here: http://www.classicmako.com/forum/top...TOPIC_ID=60514

    The boat started life as an I/O and I am converting to a single 300hp outboard. The bracket will be made by a local aluminum boat fabricator. I'm looking for input on whether to build it for a 25 or 30 inch shaft motor. I'll be buying the engine new, so can go wither route right now.

    Are there advantages to the 30 inch shaft and having the motor sit higher out of the water or the 25 inch version and keeping the weight lower?

    For the guys running brackets, what is your setup? Do you find any drawbacks or see advantages to what you have?

    for every foot of extension raise the mount by 1". most brackets account for this when they are made with a higher mounting point.
