  • 1986 150 HP Black Max Rectifier Problem?

Hello everyone. I changed my Black Max Stator, Trigger and felt I should change the rectifier just to be on the safe side. Before changing the rectifier I had cranked up the engine a couple of times to test and everything worked quite well. I replaced the old rectifier (VARD R353) with a Sierra 18-5707. I made sure the red stator lead was connected to the positive and two yellow leads to the two other poles on the rectifier. The wires were connected correctly. I did not test the engine when I changed the rectifier and today I went to turn the engine on again and it just turned and did not fire up. I normally keep replacement parts but threw away the old rectifier. Any suggestions?

Remove the yellow wires and the red wire and try to see if it has spark. If not then make sure your kill switch is not causing the issue. A faulty rectifier can cause loss of ignition but its not super common.
