  • Mercury Verado 350 reliability

I have found a great deal on a 2011 Merc Verado 350. The engine is new, never uncrated and has been sitting in a warehouse for the past 7 years.

Mercury doesn't have a great reputation in my mind but that is not based on anything concrete...

Has anyone run one of these engines? Any thoughts good or bad on them?

    Thanks

Bad rep based on the 99-01 optimax. You can research all of the info on fed. Class action mess. Having said that I hear great things about their straight 4 strokes. Have also heard some good reports on verado until the super charger goes.Down hill bad from there but I only know of a few people that have had that misforturne

If you have a local dealer or mechanic that will work in those and you have the rigging to complete the install I believe you could have a good run with that engine. Total different engine than the optimax, but backed by a world class company...in my opinion...

the smaller verados after 2008 are supposed to have a pretty good reputation. on a side note, I just found out the 225-300 are the exact same motor, just a difference in the software but I don't know if the 350 is a different motor. My mechanic has a 275 pushing 330hp from software alone. I'd say if the price is right...

Any new outboard is only as good as the mechanic whose going to be fixing it. You also need a verado certified dealer to do all the initial programming when it's rigged. All the new outboard motors have problems, but a good service guy is who makes it less of a nightmare. LOL[]
