    Greetings

I recently purchased a 1982 Mako 224. Hull seems really solid and rides very well. The previous owner disclosed that the fuel tank was close to needing replacing, which I am currently having done. When the tank was taken out, the guy doing the job told me that the wooden beams under the floor needed replacing. They do look bad, but the floor feels solid. I will replace them. My question is: should I worry about the integrity of the hull or floor further to the bow? Everything on that boat seems and feels solid. Do these hulls usually suffer from soft floors other than in the area around the fuel tank? I appreciate any help you can give me.

Which beams? Are you talking stringers? if they are bad then yes I would go forward and aft. The main issue is the lid of the fuel coffin always needs replacing as it is the soft area. The hulls are very solid and ride bigger then a 22 ft boat.

How did he determine the stringers (beams) were bad?

Snappergapper: are the stingers the beams that support the floor? I apologize, English is not my first language. The lid over the coffin was replaced by the previous owner and is solid. Floor feels solid throughout the entire boat even around the fuel lid, so it was a surprise.

Justin: they were exposed when the fuel tank was removed

The stringers support the rigidity of the boat. The foam above the stringers supports the floor. Can you provide a photo of the area. Stringers can go bad but there is usually other things that go with it.
