  • Console reconfigure 1986 231 two dr to solid face

I need some ideas or material suggestions to convert my existing double door console to a solid blank face, I was thinking about making a mold and make a gel coat fiberglass panel But I know someone has been down this road before and I'm looking for an easier clean material alternative, All ideas welcome

    Thanks Joe LI NY

so you want to glass in an existing hole? Many ways to skin a cat. You can lay up a piece of glass the same size as the opening, doing the layup on a flat piece of glass to get a smooth surface, then glass it into the hole, fair and finish. That's the 50,000 ft instructions. Pictures also help.

Sounds like your talking about removing your c-pak system. Many users on here have done this. I used a piece of starboard and screwed to the same holes that the C-PAk screws to. Is a simple clean solution.

But now during my full restoration I am going to use plywood core and glass to close the opening. Fair and finish.

More than a few holes to patch those I can do, When you remove the c pack insert your left with the entire front panel open as make231 is aware, want it to look good as I've already had the transom redone( by A Pro ) to look like an original straight inboard type and my bracket is due soon I also shortened the fuel tank to make a step down head up front as my complete console front tips open for access so I'm in pretty deep already, trying to resit the urge to take shoert cuts.

ok, didn't realize you were talking about the console front.

check out Ringleader's project which would be the gold standard IMO.
