  • 1978 mako 236 inboard engine compartment foam

Looking to get some insite on either experience or opinions on the foam that is around the stringer in the engine compartment. I cant seem to notice if it is supporting the floor at all or what its purpose was/is. I currently have the 1994 mercruiser 350 taken out. So now is the time to get the foam out if I do. Thoughts? Thanks.

The PO of my 236 removed all the foam around the stringers in the engine compartment. No problem with the deck above.
