  • Bought Mako 19 - need info

I'm a new member, just bought a Mako 19, 1980 with '98 115 mariner. I have very little experience but the hull and transom, and areas where I can coin tap stringers look solid, the deck is spongy aft of the center console. My problem is, the title says 1980 but according to the Mako website they didn't make a 19 footer in 1980 so I'm just trying to figure out what I bought. Also, the gas fill is in the center console and there is a a small cut-out just over the bilge pump area. Any ideas on how to tell what year it is? The transom does not have any markings in the usual spot. I can get the model number off the name plate though. Also, I just want to start using the boat even knowing about the deck problems, but would like to preserve the condition as it is. Any recommendations as to simple maintenance so as not to worsen the condition further. Thanks.

    - Post pictures of all questionable areas please!

    - I believe you can get model year off the HIN - do a search on this site, I think someone already posted about that.

Thanks for the help Biff123. I found the data on the HIN that you were refering to under http://www.classicmako.com/FAQ/HIN. I will also try and get some digital pics posted of the gas fill on the top of the center console - I still wonder if that's by design for this model or after market modification.

My buddy just picked up a '69 19'. That too has the gas fill on the top of the console, tank indside it. Thought that was an aftermarket modification, someone too lazy/cheap to do it right and pull the console and have a tank made. But after looking at the boat a second time, I dont think there is a deck plate/tub under the console. Now my '73 17 had an underdeck tank...so I thought it was just the age of the boat, that they changed things around afterwards. So ether they never did that in the 19...which I find hard to believe....or possibly your boat is older than you think??
