  • prop 4 mako

I have a 1980 21' mako w/ a 1998 200hp rude. I cuurently have a 14.5x19 prop and getting 4800 rpms wot. I'm thinking about going down to a 17" pitch. Can someone give me some input on there setup with a similar configuration.

    Thanks

It seems there is are big differences between boats and performance with props. I have a 1988 21', the '88 has another 7 inches on the 80 model. I run a '92 Johnson 225 and swing a 14 1/4 X 21 SST II. WOT is (loaded) 5500 RPM @ 40 MPH (GPS)

If I am not mistaken that motor needs to run 5-6K RPM.

Your killing that engine in a slow, hot, torquey way.

General rule of thumb, you'll gain 200 RPM per drop in pitch inch.

You're looking at going to at least a 17p, maybe a 15 with cup added.
