    Trying to understand why there is a large cut out with screw holes around where the lifting eye cleat connects to the bow eye

    That is so the threaded rod can be bolted from the lifting ring on the top deck to the bow eye. Technically you are transferring the load to the bow eye and NOT lifting the top deck. Usually there is a cover piece on there to help prevent stuff from going down behind the liner.

      I have the same cut-out. I am going to glass over the area. Mine is not is as good as shape as yours so I would have to cut it anyhow to remove.

        Snappergapper I understand what the bow eye and lift eye does. I just wanted to know what was screwed in around it.
        If its about electricity, I deff know more than you.
