    Hi Bill...

    Like others have suggested...hold off using the boat until you can confirm the problem.

    If you can get eyes on the stringers in that area, that should tell you if it something major.

    It is not uncommon for the stringers to fail where the factor limber/lift holes were made...see pics below





    Be sure to take some images of your findings and post them here so forum members can recommend what repair actions are needed.

    That crack 3-4' up from the stern definitely sounds bad.

    Dont run the boat until you can investigate -- likely bad stringer(s).

    Sounds like you have a bad transom and possibly suspect stringers causing flex in the hull and cracking the gelcoat. What motor do you have, how is the transom and where are you located?

    Pictures would also help greatly. You need to upload them to a image hosting website like IMGUR and then paste the IMG code into your post. There is a tutorial posted above on how to do it if needed.
