  • Keys for spring break '19

We're going to be in the lower keys (Cudjoe) for spring break this year and I was wondering if anyone else is going to be in the area. I'm unfamiliar with the keys, but my boat had a TON of numbers for the entire Atlantic side of the keys from Tortuga to Largo that I want to explore and would love to have a friendly face close by or a running mate. It'll be just my wife and I for the week of 3/23 to 3/30.

Good Luck Peevy.I am usually in Marathon that week of March, but this year I am going a few weeks earlier. Buy yourself a few blocks of chum, a box of hooks and some frozen ballyhoo and anchor up on a patch reef. Don't discount the coral humps in hawk channel. They are loaded with fish.

I will have to do that. I am planning on trying to do some spearing while we are there as well. I love the shallow reefs for that too.

little bit of a run from cudjoe but the marathon hump should give you as much fun on blackfins and you can handle, also had some wahoo, dolphin, occasional sails, and we had a big yellowfin on once I think?, was mixed on a bait ball with some blackfin Got one quick peak, looked definitely to be a tuna but dwarfed the blackfins and we lost him on a 20lb lever drag outfit

I don't mind a boat ride. I fish the Gulf of Mexico in the Tampa area so a normal day for grouper means that I'm running 25 miles one way. I've never done any trolling so until I ride with someone that can show me the ropes phins and tuna are out of my wheelhouse. One day though I'll get buried up in a big tuna!!!

The family is doing Marathon March 9-24th this year. Hoping for calm winds and sunshine. The March water temps are normally around 73 or so, a touch chilly to look for bugs.
