  • In Deck__bait well 254

Working on plumbing the bait well for my 254. I'm wondering if anyone has done this and in doing so, used one of the drains for the fish boxes as their water overflow drain line? Seems logical to use one of these existing thru hulls rather than cutting a new hole. My real concern is whether the pressure from the outside (i.e. ocean water) will impede the flow of the bait well overflow (which is flowing out just on gravity). These drains are well below the water line.

    Hope all this makes sense.

    Thanks

The back pressure should not hinder evacuating the bait tank, as long as the thru-hull is large enough, and as long as you optimize running the plumbing with least restriction and turns. It will only drain the water that is above the waterline, when at less than planing speed.

This may be off topic but I completely get away with the baitwell on my 2:32 and did the same exact thing on my old 254 got tired of bending over and it just was never right.. I tied it into the existing Plumbing and it works great

Photo bucket doesn't seem to allow that luxury.

Capt. Andy is right on, that's exactly where i'd put a livewell like I did on my 241, I cut the old in deck livewell out and made a nice hatch for even more bilge access and had a removable 30 gallon under the leaning post
