  • Rub rail questions

Im purchasing new rub rail and looking for some guidances. I was on Barbour plastic website and they only had rubrail for Mako in 18 sections . Seems to me you would want one continuous piece coiled and shipped. Stuff is heavy so local place in Florida preferred. Hopefully save some on freight

Where to buy? How to measure? Etc

I just went through this and I ordered it from West Marine (using a port supply account) and got the Taco Rigid Vinyl Flex-Core 1 9/16" x 3/4" with stainless steel hollow back insert 3/4" x 5/16" insert. If you are going stainless, which you should, then get them as long as possible, at least 12' which makes bending along the curves of the hull easier...or so I'm told....mine is still sitting in the box.

Consider weather you are going to stop where the hull side meets the transom or if you are going to go all the way across the transom

Why does everyone like the stainless insert over the factory style black insert. I'm a fan of the beefy rubrail Mako used from the factory since I spend some time nestled against bridge icebreakers and pilings. How does the stainless fare in actual usage?

Personal preference but Im not gonna knock the side of my boat off stuff like that. Id be more afraid of stressing the fiberglass

Im buying from Barbour soon and going with white with a gray insert.

I think it will look clean and I dont like polishing stuff all the time.

              To each his own.

West Marine offers the Taco Metals rub rail in up to 70' lengths. Generally it is installed in one length and joined at the center of the transom.
