  • 1990 231

I'm new to the mako game. I'm looking at a 90 model 231. Tank was pulled in 2011 and coated. Gel was redone last year along with gator grip on the deck. It has an 01 ox66 225EFI on it. Is there anything I need to be looking for specifically? This is the ad for it: https://ocala.craigslist.org/boa/d/mako/6710198571.html

Any input would be appreciated. My grandpa had an 86 model 231 and from what I remember it was an incredible boat.

I thought the 231 of that year came with the recessed tabs?My 241 was same year and had them. I could be wrong about that, and having them outside the transom isn't necessarily a bad thing, can put bigger tabs. At 1st glance looks pretty nice, what most everyone worries about is original tanks and transoms. So they took out original tank and put back in? After coal tarring or coating with something else? Not sure I would have done that, if it was out would have went new. Price wise looks a little high but it does have a brand new trailer and decent amount of recent work into it, i'd give it a hard look if I was in the market, very good motor for the hull

Thanks for the input. I am in the market that's why I am "taking a hard look". I've got him down 1k before going to look at it. I'll be going this coming weekend to look at it and test run.

I've got a 1995 231 and I love it! great boat all the way around. took it to bimini this summer. Just look over the tank best you can as well as the floor and transom.

That hull looks great, as does the trailer, and the updated electronics is a big plus. The main possible exposure comes from the age of the motor. It would be nice to know its history. What work has been done on it? How many hours on it? Is their a mechanic who has cared for it? What is the compression on the cylinders?

From what I have seen having spent some recent months shopping for a 231, it seems to be a bit high, but if that outboard is in great shape with several years of expected service, you would have a great boat.

Motor has 340 hours on it. Boat was previously a commercial stone crab boat. It sat idle for the last 5 years. The current owner did the remodel. Motor has been on this boat since 2011 and had 290 hours when it was installed. Low pressure pumps have all been replaced this year. I'm going to do a compression test when I go look at it this weekend. He's off the price some already so we'll see where it goes. So far I am liking what I'm seeing.

Well..... I bought it! 1990 Tuppens originally built for a Tom Land in South FL, it's in great condition not a soft spot anywhere, brand new trailer, and a good transom.

Mostly West coast. Out of St Pete, Clearwater, and Crystal River. Lots of snapper and grouper will meet their maker in the box on this boat [8D]. I'll try to dig up some pictures of past trips.
