I sea trialed a 1987 248 w/ a2005 250 Verado on it yesterday. The capt. was continually adjusting the tabs in an effort to keep it straight. It kept heeling over to one side then the other, like it was top heavy. I saw one post about this same problem on a 248.This model is supposed to have a bracket (full transom). The guy said he would be putting bigger tabs on if he were keeping the boat. He's owned it for 5 years.Any thoughts? It's not chine walking, it just lays over.Any one know why they only made this model for 2 years?

How full was the tank? Makes me thing it was lacking in baffles and as the gas moved it moved the boat. Could also be water in the hull moving around, id investigate more before I made an offer

was it a windy day? I used to notice on my 21B that it would lean into the wind...I learned an expensive lesson buying a 23 Steigercraft when I sea trialed it and stepped on the gunnel to get into the boat it really leaned over..I was about 150 pounds..should have paid more attention to my gut..it was one rocky rolly sob and I dumped it am year later for several grand less than I paid..

I don't know how much fuel was in it. He said it was a 120 gallon tank.It did feel like it was half full and had no baffles. The bilge pump ran when we pulled out of the slip so I assume the bilge wasn't full and sloshing around.If there is water on the outside of the stringers,it would weigh the boat down,but not make it behave like that because it wouldn't have much room to "push" on the boat.??? Would it? There were no access hatches to check that area. I read some things saying the engine may be too low, cav. plate under water while on plane.Also to put larger trim tabs on and or put a 4 blade prop on it.These were solutions to chine walking though. At one time in it's life it had a hingeable tower. base is still there as a hardtop.The top is long gone.Could not imagine it running like that w/ a tower!

No wind,hardly any waves except for boat traffic. It was in New Bedford Ma., a large commercial fishing fleet.

Has the tank been replaced? Mako info indicates it should have a 150 gal tank.

I noticed that from all info. I could find.He said it was not original,but didn't know when replaced.There is no pop out cover over the sending unit,just a screwed down siliconed plate.I told him I will want to unscrew it and inspect/ sniff in there before we finalize anything. He said he replaced the sending unit.

After a little research I'm don't think there were any longitudinal baffles on 150 gallon and below tanks.

Well motor had water in lower unit, multiple upgrades were not performed,and price was firm,so I passed on it. Thanks for your input.
