  • How to check out a 1971 Mako for sale?

    Hi-

I'm going to be looking at 1971 Mako 19 with a 1986 Evinrude 88 for sale. Can anyone help me with what I should look at on this boat and motor specifically? The boat is described as 'refurbished and ready to go' and the price seems fair if this is true.

Can anyone give me list of what to look for?

    Thank you!

I'm surprised no one has replied.

Has the deck, stringers, transom and tank been replaced?

If not check for soft spots on the deck. Water, bowing and cracks in the transom.

If the tank hasn't been replaced that will be questionable.

Best bet is to pay a local mechanic to go over it. May cost $100 plus to do so but small price to pay for piece of mind. Ive done this twice and glad I did
