  • gas tank replacement cost?

hello guys has anyone have an idea how much it would cost to have the gas tank replaced ? just a ballpark figure; I have the console off and the coffin lid off so may be it pays to have it done now instead of later ? any ideas would be good thanks I just dont feel like tackling that one my self

I just replaced my tank this June so I can give you some real prices. Tank will be about $10. per gallon plus, my tank $1350. and its 110 gallons this is with barrier coating. New hoses and wires $150, Three gallon kits of foam $330. Fiberglass, resin, SS screws & finish washers $185. This is just around $2000. This took about 10 days of work with all the work done by my self and brother inlaw not a hard job just a lot of work.

Here's a tank swap I had done. I had no way to get it done at the dock so I had to take it out to have it done.

The link to what was done, more or less.

Cost to have it done: $4500 more or less for a 140 gallon tank.

Living in NJ, my last quote for a new tank was $1750 complete. This include a 160 gallon tank, along with all fitting and new fuel lines. ID Booch was dead on at $10 per gallon.

This is just the cost of material. I was given a quote of 6K complete which include t top removal , coffin lid removal , tank removal and installlation. Since you have the top and lid removed deduct that.

With thank said, dont assume the tank is bad. Definately pull the tank and have it inspected. If its good , have it cleaned , tar coated and reinstall

well guys thanks for all your help, It looks like im gonna find out the price first hand,my tank is shot, like it was shot with a shot gun some nice holes, i wasnt planning to pull tank but im planning to now!! lucky for me my brother owns a big fabrication /welding shop I guess I know where I will be for the next few weeks. I was toying around with the idea of ,If the tank seems to be to hard to remove why not make a duplicate tank say 2 inches smaller in scale, cut the top out of the existing 86 gal tank and installing the new one in side the old one except for the weight oh well here we go thanks

Personally, I'd not drop one tank in the other. Get the metal with corrosion out. You don't want that there.

It's a pain. I know... but I'd give it a shot to pull the old one out. It will come out with some elbow grease and patience.
