  • Please help What the metal plate extending my hull

I have an 83' 224 that has an Armstrong platform and Bennett tabs. Under the platform and between the tabs is an aluminum plate that extends the hull. The funny thing is, the port side of the plate is about 16" off the transom and the starboard side is about 12" off the transom.

Anyone know what this is and its purpose?

I have a picture but haven't been able to figure out how to attach it here. I apologize for my ignorance, I'm new to the site and not familiar with it yet.

    Thanks!!
    JC
