  • 1990 Mako 171 Gel Coat Color?

In doing my Google research, it appears the internet thinks that the appropriate white gel coat color for my 1990 Mako 171 is:

    Mako Summer White 68-94.

However, before I do my patch work I was hoping for some confirmation from the Mako Sages here on classicmako.com...

Whatever you purchase stock still isn't going to match after 18+ years of exposure to elements. You are going to have to custom mix whatever you decide on.

The color does fade over time. I would suggest to get any white gel coat and try coloring it yourself.

I cant recommend a brand but if you have a piece of gel coat like a speaker hole cut out or gauge cut out you could try sending that to a gel coat manufacturer as a sample to match.

I think Mini-Kote is the company that will match a sample.

I recently used the white gel coat from West Marine, and added a tiny amount of brown tint to it. Came quite close to the existing color. I had found this hint somewhere in the archives here. My boat is also a 1990.

In past, I've also used Jamestown Distributings Oyster white, and it, too was pretty close, but not perfect.

I have also seen threads here on Classic Mako talking about FGCI and their Dusky white gelcoat.

My boat is also a 1990, and I have a little touch up I would like to do if I can find a matching color.

Below is the link to their brushable gelcoat. has anyone tried this?
