So I need to replace the depth sounder on our 236, and have an older factory refurbished Garmin unit with GPS, depth, fish finder, and radar capabilities that my father in-law gave me when he upgraded his on their Parker. I would like to avoid cutting a hole in the sole of the boat, and don't want a transom hung transducer, can I mount inside and have the transducer shoot through the hull? That's the way the current one is mounted I think, appears to be encased in glass.

I have an airmar P79 shoot thru. Works fine up to 500-600 feet with my Simrad NSS8. Can read 1000 most times, but that is the upper limit.
Simple install. Cleaned the spot, siliconed it down, filled with antifreeze. plug and play.
I installed mine just off the centerline under the transmission. Accessed from the hatch behind the console.

Thanks to both of you for your input, looks like I have a good option and can avoid cutting a hole in the bottom of the boat.
