  • Bilge discharge location

    So Im re installing two much larger bilge pumps on my 19. The two pumps are currently discharging out of the starboard side rear above the useless floor locker. I need to run 1 1/8 lines and thru hull discharge ports.

    My question is to make my life much much easier could I install the thru hull discharge ports out of my plastic splash plates at the stern ?

    Is there a reason you shouldnt discharge from the starboard side stern ?

    This location would actually be higher than the current gunwale location.

    You can run them anywhere you want, just keep them up above where water, such as splashing waves, can back drain into them. I have one coming out the starboard gunnel and a second one coming out the rigging tube and going out over the transom. Its tough to route a big fat hose up inside of the gunnel.

          Technically they should have a loop above the discharge but if you mount them high enough it shouldn't be a problem. I have one going out each side so I know which pump kicks on as one is a day pump and one is a bigger pump that if it kicks on I know there is a LOT of water in the bilge. Not sure what plates you are talking about but I would want them installed permanently and correctly. This is not an item you want to take a short cut.

            Id think Id rather have them on the sides. You can see and hear it better

              theoretically would work out the sides or straight aft I think? But getting caught in a storm maybe taking some waves over the stern, would be hard to see visually water pumping out, as well as harder to turn 180 degrees. And the mention of back siphoning scares me a little in that scenario, hard to pump water out with water coming in. In the boats I've owned by far the worst was my aquasport. The better or best was my 241 mako.Discharge way above the waterline. Didn't come with enough pumps when I got it, but added 2 more so had 2 2000gph pumps in the bilge and one electronic 1000gph in the bracket. Also upgraded to better hoses, and changed the plastic discharge to all stainless

                Below is a sketch of how I plan to run them. THere physically is not enought room in the gunwale with all the control cables throttle and steering cables running thru.

                  Can you run the new below deck bilge pump hose to where the excising pumps discharged? Thinking minus the two smaller hoses....one large hose should fit.

                  About the deck pump...why not just run the hose up and over the transom?...keep the hose above the deck...seal up the hole in the sump box.

                    Im not liking the design. Youre not going to want them hoses coming out of the deck. If youre going to stick with this idea then run them out of the transomto the left or right of the splash guards. I cant imagine their is zero room on the freeboard.

                      It was actually this way when I bought the boat from the PO.

                      They had both hoses from both bilge pumps running up thru the floor and into the gunwale and out the side. So the hoses were partially exposed.

                      The new 1 1/8" bilge hoses are very lage together and its going to be very tuff getting them snoked thru where the control wires are pulled thru.

                      Does anyone know what is below the gunwale on the starboard rear of the boat? I looked at it for a few minutes the other day and it seemed to be fiberglassed closed. There was no easy access to the side of the boat from under the deck. I would really like to run them up from the bottom of the bilge so no hoses are exposed anywere. To me this would be the correct way to do it however I dont want to start cutting the boat apart untill I am ready to do a complete overhaul restore.

                        The po did not put much effort into routing the pump discharge hoses. I question why he chose that route?

                        I ran my bilge pump discharges out the port side....there is room to run the hose under the deck then up and out the gunwale. I stayed away from the starboard side because the rigging tube from the console runs along that side.

                        I have some pics I can dig up that might be helpful....

                          I think Im stuck on the starboard side as there are already two 1" holes from the last plumbing job.

                          I orderd two 90 degree 1 1/8 thru hull fittings they will be here tomorrow, maybe I can figure out a way to get the two hoses up from under deck/bilge and stright into the fittings that would be ideal.

                              Polelock, just read that entire thread. Thanks for linking that. Id still love to see your pics. If I can get a 1/2 bar down in there and break up the foam I should be able to get the hoses completely under deck for starboard side discharges. I guess sometimes the easy way out is the worst way in this case. Now Ill need to fill in 4 holes in the deck that the PO had 2 had bilge hoses running thru from below deck and the others were cooped up with silicone. Would love to keep everything clean below deck if possible.
