  • Selling My 1990 Mako 231

    Hi Guys,

It's time to sell my 231, I am going to provide some information below, and ask for some help pricing it. I know pictures are needed, but I struggle with paying PhotoBucket for 3rd party hosting.

This boat was kept on the trailer by the original owner, and fished the Chesapeake Bay area. I have kept it on a lift in fresh water since I bought it on 2001.

The boat is very clean, I did a mini update in 2014, I painted the deck installed a new Garmin GPS/sounder, replaced the t-top canvas, installed new bilge and live well pumps, and had all the cushions redone.

The boat has it's original 1989 Evinrude 225, with 450 hours, it runs great. The VRO has been disconnected but all parts go with the boat if the new owner wants to reinstall. Two props go with the boat.

I also have a tandem axle LONG full roller trailer for the boat. In 2018 I have completely rebuilt the brake system, and put on 5 new Goodyear Endurance Radials.

I have done some searching and find these boats listed from $10,000 to $26,000. Any help with pricing it is appreciated, I am thinking $14,000 based on what I see out there.

    Thanks in advance,

    mymako231

I dont think anyone here without seeing pictures is going to be able to give any real opinions about the sale price. Im with you on photo bucket. My 91 231 has all new cushions , new live well pump and lines, new raw water wash down pump and tubing. Has a 2001 Yamaha ox66 250hp with 560 hours. Full trailer with 2 new axles . Ive been told asking price for mine at 12k.

Youre probably not too far off.

Brian, Did you ever get my email? I am wondering if the Forum email works?

              Thanks,

I would look up the hull and trailer and see where that gets me. The motor is very old and unless you have time, energy, resources, knowledge and facilities to keep it reliable... it needs to be replaced by a new owner. While the upgrades you mention do cost a good penny....cushions/T- Top canvas etc they are standard to these boats and require periodic replacement. You never get what you put into these boats. 12K is a little steep for a USED hull and trailer. Maybe, 8 K. Perhaps, if it had a younger motor. What is the condition of transom and fuel tank?

Mymako231- nice boat, sounds like you have put some decent upgrades into it. For reference I bought a 89 231 with 89 Yamaha for less than you are talking. This was in 2013. No top, older cushions, original tank, 2007 Long trailer. Great hull, and layout. I think explrgab is close even with the older power.

                    Steve,

Nice looking boat you got there, looks like you bought it at the right time. The economy is booming and prices keep going up. I wanted to get a 24 Cape Horn, but 5 to 10 year old boats are selling for more than they cost new.

I know my Mako has an older engine and the original tank, but after looking at other current listings, I think if people see and Sea-trial mine, $12K is in the ballpark.

I just need to get it listed and find out.

                    Thank you,

                    George

Transom is dry, and tank looks good from inspection plates. Never had any issues, and the boat has been trailered and on a lift in fresh water for the last 20 years. See my response to parker greenwood for more info.

                      Thank you,

                        George,

No, I didn't receive your email.

                        [email protected]

don't worry about the questions about the tank, transom etc. If they are good, then they are good.

if the motor run strong, they could go forever. Those old carbed 2 strokes are work horses. maybe a little thirsty, but good motors.

Have somebody go out there and find what you are offering at that price.

                          Brian,

I got your photos, thank you for sharing, that is a great looking 231 you have there.

I think you are right on target with your comments. This is an old Mako in great shape, but will also have a limited audience because it has the original motor.

It has spent the last 16 plus years on a fresh water lake, and before that it was trailered to the ocean by the original owner. I think it will have to be seen by people who like the old carbonated 2 strokes as you said.

                          Thanks,

                          George
