Hi guys, I have a 88 Mako 20 with a infloor bait well and have no idea how it works. Theres a hose lol and a removable piece of pvc and some kind of valve underneath for which the handle has broken off. Does the valve have anything to do with the bait well. I was going to have it replaced so it works and then test it but could use some help figuring the whole thing out. I drained the well but water keeps coming back into it. So im guessing the partially open valve thats broken has something to do with it?

Why dont you take some pics and post. You should have a thru hull with a shut off, then the tubing over to a livewell pump. From the pump, more tubing to an inlet valve or fitting into the livewell . On th inside of the livewell there should be an on/off Valve for the water inlet. Dont know about the overflow set up on the 20.
If you go back to the FAQs here on the site, you can find the manual for you boat. It will have the complete schematic for the livewell
Good luck.

Most of the older Makos including our 250 have the same issue with the livewell backfilling from the overflow outlet. The first year we inserted a expandable plug then later cemented a piece of PVC with a shut off valve. As suggested look at the diagrams provided for help. We modified the pumping to include a macerator rather than the Mako plumbing with a three valve shut offs which never worked properly. Presently our fish boxes drain into the bilge. We use them more for storage and put fish in the livewell.

I just permanently resolved the back flow problem with the overflow . After replacing the thru hull for the scupper, I added a shut off valve so when the boat is not in use and in the water, I can completed shut down any backflow issues. In addition, I added an inline scupper in the overflow tube that again will prevent backflow into the well while the boat is in operation. So Im completely covered.
