  • 175 Evinrude on 94 201 ?

I have the opportunity to get a great deal in a new 175 Evinrude. The boat has an older 200 and I know everyone always says go with bigger hp . Boat weight is 2150lbs.

So you think that 175 will suffice ? I primarily troll offshore and hit the sandbar .

I had a 150 on my 201 and had no problems. At one time I had 8 people, two dogs, two coolers and a bunch of chairs and other crap with no problem.

The 200 on it is fun though.

        It's advertised as 2150.

Is it a G1 or G2 model Evinrude?

          I have an '84 228 (cuddy) that specs say is 2300 #'s. I feel it is somewhat under-powered w/ G1 2008 175 hp.

          I don't know the size of the '94 201, but my '84 228 is 22'6" x 8'.

I have about the lowest pitch available in SS props at 14". The Etec's want to run in the 5500 - 5800 WOT

          range with normal load.

And you want to be sure the anti-cav plate is just skimming the water while cruising.

If you aren't worried about being the fastest boat out there it will work.

I got a smokin hot deal on the used 175 hp ($3100 w/ 300 hrs) so I couldn't pass it up.

But, if I were buying new, I'd have gone with the 200 or 225.

The small block 200 might be better due to the lower weight.

Had same boat with 150 . With new 175 youll likely see approx 38 mph top end and acceptable overall performance.

I later switched to 200 and saw about 45 top end , able to hold plane at lower speed and noticeably stronger out of the hole.
