  • Whats it worth?

Looking at a mako 261 with twin 1998 Evinrude 200s. Tandem axle trailer with new bearings, 210 gallon tank installed in 2012, transom is original but supposed to be solid. I will probably be going to sea trial it next weekend. Guy is asking $13k, if compression is good and transom is solid it sounds about right. What do you guys think?

motors are worth 4K to someone else. As long as the hull is solid and the trailer is decent you could be in it for 8-9K. Hang a few nice used motors for 15K or so and have a great boat.

if the motors are fichts they are worthless. If they are carbed they are not worth much more but can still be run. If everything else checks out and it is very clean you are looking at hull value and this might be a high price IMO.

I would advise that you pay attention to the details. For example, a new gas tank cost several thousand dollars. That's a definite plus for you. If the transom is solid and the floors are solid and the hull looks good then you may be onto a good deal. If he's asking 13,000, then he'll probably take 1000 or two less. Also, Consider the add-ons. Does it have a T top? Does it have a good electronics? Does it have a good trailer? All of these items cost a significant amount of money. In my opinion, the more add-ons the better your deal. Conversely, if it has an old Bimini top and no electronics and Bucket seats then you need to consider that you may want to add a T top, leaning post and new electronics. All that ain't cheap! And I respectfully disagree with others that suggest the engines are worthless. If they run someone will buy them. I sold a 15-year-old Honda four stroke 130 with a blown cylinder $1000. There's a buyer for everything.

They are carbed pre-ficht Motors. Pair of garmin 740s, ttop with 15 Taco outriggers. Leaning post gone and replaced with livewell(doesnt look pretty but if the plumbing is well done I could swap it out for something like ringleader did). New(ish) tank seems like a Big Plus. I dont know many details about trailer other than it has new bearings. I dont know what style axles or if it has working brakes. Im hoping I can talk him down to $10
