  • Dual motors on 1979 Mako 23?

Is anyone running dual motors on a 23 of this vintage. Currently running an Optimax 225 / 2010 year with 1800 hours. Runs like a top but at some point Im thinking a full transom modification with bracket and dual 150s

Many of the 23's were rigged with twins but smaller, lighter motors then what you see today. I do not think bracketed twin 150's would work very well on a 23. A single 300 would be a much better idea for weight and performance.

Thanks.....Just thinking for reliability and getting back home, a pair beats a single?

Twins on 24 or 25' and under are outdated thinking. They are not that heavy and rarely out further then sea tow or a newer 4 stroke will take you. Maintaining twins is expensive too. A single 250 or 300 is perfect on a 23'.
