  • 53mph 17 with a 115 Suzuki 4 stroke?

    Came across this yesterday.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FzR3...youtu.be&t=451
Caught my eye as its very similar to my 17. You'll hear in the video that the boat tops out at 53mph. I find this hard to believe as I top at 34mph with a typical load and right around 40mph with low fuel, no gear and one person. I would really like a little more speed for those flat calm summer days in Tampa bay. Should I be looking at a reprop?

    I'm running a 3 blade 19 pitch(need to double check but I'm 99% sure) 5650RPM at WOT

My hole shot is ridiculous, boat jumps on a plane instantly and I would be willing to sacrifice hole shot for more speed if necessary.

Jack plate is all the difference in the world. I put a 6" manual plate on my old Sea Pro 19 and gained 6-7 mph by that alone.

Well I've tried a few different props now and I'm getting about the same numbers. Best so far is a 4 blade Quicksilver Q4 19 pitch. I gained about 1 or 2 mph. Not enough to justify the cost of a new prop.
I think the owner of the mako in the video is full of crap. Maybe a 150 or 175 could get that speed but not a 115.

He is full of crap. I had a 150 on my 17 that was featured on the episode of Florida Sportsman’s Project Dreamboat the following week and mine ran 54 light.
