  • Transom core thickness 1990 251

Hey guys so I’m prepping the transom on my 1990 251. I have all the old wood removed and I bought 1.5” coosa since that what I was told the transom core is.

however when I cut the old skin off and stripped the inside wood I’m only getting 1.25” gap between the skins. No way 1.5” coosa is going on there. Just curious if anyone’s come across this befors

    thanks daniel

    Looks like barely 1-1/4” gap

without seeing it closer, to look for previous joints, I would have to think that this has had a transom job before...

Hey Redbird. I'm finishing up my 241 transom and yes, I had only 1.25" to work with. I used 3/4 and 1/2 coosa Bluewater. But, I added two layers of 1708 and epoxy to the inner skin as its paper thin. So, I shaved the coosa around the perimeter to make it fit. Hope this helps, Bill
