  • Good link on brackets

I've spent a little time looking into brackets and cam across information that someone has compiled that may be of use to others. This comes from a Whaler board.

Noticed you upgraded to a 225 on your 20 Mako. That thing must fly!

I had a 200 Yammie on my 1991 Mako 201 and it was scary fast...only did about 45mph by GPS but even at that speed she would get squirrely.

What kind of numbers are you seeing with the new 225?? Must be over 50mph easy...

      Ed,

With the 200 is would run about 47-48 mph SOG on the GPS. The 225 was on the boat, but I had a wiring harness issue, so I pulled it off and put the 200 back on and launched it. I've been too busy to pull the boat and swap over, but will hopefully do so in the next couple weeks.

I expect the 225 to put in over 50, about 52-53 which is plenty fast. I will be adding a t-top and the added drag will probably bring me back to where I started. I find myself very rarely running WOT and prefer a bigger motor to get on a plane quicker or pull a skier. I know many out there frown on overpowering, but my rule of thumb is rated power plus 10% and insurance has never been an issue. If insurance ever became an issue Yamaha 200 stickers are availble for about $25 at the dealer.

The only boat I ever owned that was hairy at speed with overpowering was 13' Whaler with a 50hp Johnson as a kid. That was a fun boat and it was very fast, but like a kite - my days as a kid are long over.
