  • Worn throttle?

Where is the throttle stop on a mid-80's Evinrude 150? Is it in the throttle housing? Here is a picture of a throttle similar to mine and I'm trying to figure out where to start looking for the problem of my shifter not stopping in Neutral like it should.

That looks like mine. Here is a link to a photo from my parts catalog.

The catalog is for late 80's 185/200/225 Evinrude's.

I purchased the catalog along with the shop manual from www.marineengine.com

    Hope it helps.

Neutral detent is in the shifter mech. itself. You might find a ball and spring type of device. there not all that bad to take apart. If the complete unit is shot you can buy a new surplus for around a 100 bucks. I see them on e-bay all the time even cheeper.. dave.

Thanks Dave, that is exactly what I wanted to know. Just figuring out where to start my search for the orginial problem.

Rob - how do you like that manual? I was thinking about buying a Clymer or Seloc manual from ebay. Not sure which one is best or if there is a better manual out there.

I like my OMC service manual, I also have the clymer manual for my engine.

The OMC manual seems to be geared towards shop techs while I'm still just a novice tinkerer. The Clymer seems to be geared towards shade tree mechanics. I usually read both a few times before I jump into anything.

I have seen the Seloc for my engine, it seemed to skip over some things that my other manuals covered pretty well.

My OMC Parts Catalog has been very helpful. Ive been able to find all my ignition parts online. This allowed me to negotiate the price on parts a little with my mechanic, when having some work done recently.

I was able to pickup my Clymer manual from a used book seller from www.amazon.com

I've heard that sometimes you can find Clymer and Seloc manuals at your local library.

Thanks Rob. I somehow always forget about that place called a library. Heck if it's not on the internet, it doesn't exist. [8D][8D]
