  • 2000 Johnson 225

I just purchased a 1985 Mako 238 WA with a 2000 Johnson 225 outboard. It is currently running fine. My question: Is it better to keep it oil injected or mix with fuel?

    Ultimately: mix with fuel

As long as you do it and keep with your motor's set standard (even keep a written down chart for figuring differing fuel levels), you can't go wrong. Pumps eventually die...especially these oiler pumps. The burn up happens so fast, you'll never know it until it seizes.

Unless this is a direct injected fitct motor I dont know if you can premix these type of engines. I have a 10 year rule on oil injection

"usually" you can depend on your original oiling system for around 10 years if properly maintained. I unhooked the oiler on my 96 225 and am very happy with its performance and lack of smoke. My grandpa taught me to properly mix gas and oil, it worked for him, I dont ever remember him "blowing up" and outboard. neither did my dad and believe it or not all the outboards I have owned, I have never blown one up either.(bought plenty already shot though)(knock on wood) dave.
