  • Motor Shims

What is up with these shims? Does the motor look like the boat should sub? Any comments on this setup? I have not had the boat in the water yet. Maybe I should bring a snorkel.

I wondered myself when I looked at that boat. Only thing I can figure is that was the P.O. way of keeping the bow down when coming up on plane. If its the boat I think it is, Bay Harbor Marine did most of the work on that boat during its life. (mixed reputation)

Most all the 17's on this forum with v4's have trim tabs.(now we know why.) dave

lencos or bennets, probably 9x12's Warthog has a good website on tab info. I think its called "tabman" Let us know how that little 17 runs out. Dave.

My 17 had a 140 on it before I went bigger. That setup is totaly wrong. That boat will come up on plane without a problem. I would get rid of those shims. The only reason I can think that someone would do that is they used it as a work boat.

Loose the transom wedges. With the wedges...When the motor is trimmed out & running, there is no more side support of the clamp bracket center. Just my .02...LoveMyMako[]

I took the boat out on the Bay for an airshow. We are very happy about how she runs and handles. The shims need to go, I think. Plenty of power to plane. I ended up trimming the motor way up due to the shim angles. I blew a fuse on the ride back, I think it blew because the single trim cylinder was doing all the work due to the motor having to be trimmed so high up. Otherwise the boat was just creating so much drag and nose smacking. I have some pics of our ride back in some nice chop. I will post tonight.

Does anyone agree with my fuse analysis??

Here is a pic looking for a party spot on Power Island. Notice the nice sunburn. Still not sure if I should take the shims out. Think I will take her out one more time to make sure.

                    Dave,

I will try to contact you tomorrow. I am by LA, near Long Lake. Plans for the weekend are being out on Long Lake and hanging out. Maybe a couple slip bobs with leaches towards evening. What is your email?

Also, quick question, where is the serial # located on the v4 johnson?

Salmon fishing picking up!!!!!!!! If you are into that, we should hook up!
