  • '78 Johnson 200 - Scrap or Parts Value?

    Hello all:

First post. I have a 1978 Mako 21 in the midst of an engine update. The old motor is the original '78 Johnson 200. Had it rebuilt in 1999 with a remanufactured powerhead and lower unit (I know, stupid, stupid, stupid). Lower unit went out in 2003 and the boat was out of the water last season. Does it have any resale or parts value at all? The boat has always been operated in fresh water if that makes any difference. Motor ran well up to the gear case problem. Any thoughts? 50 cents a pound at the scrap yard?

Once I get her back in the water (next week I hope), I'm sure I'll have more to post but I've enjoyed lurking. Great site!

You should be able to find a good used lower unit for that motor, try Hildebrand salvage in coldwater Mi. He will have one. Just dont let him rob you. He also pays good for salvage engines. welcome aboard. dave.
