  • Classic Mako Construction

I am considering purchasing a 1980s model Mako, probably 21-23 feet. I am not familiar with the construction of these boats. I know wood is used in the transom. But where else? What are the stringers made of? Is the transom the only major rotting problem of some of these boats? Also, I noticed that most Makos have foam floatation and some of the brochures mention that the boat is unsinkable. How true is this? Does a classic Mako have the swamped capacity and reserve buoyancy similar to the old Boston Whalers? Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
