      I think someone is pulling your leg.

      I just helped my boss do some warranty work on a new Mako and the transom's are still made out of wood. Nothing wrong with this as long as they are made properly.

        I've always heard rumors that they made wood free huls for a year or so during the 1990's and had big problems. But I've never actually heard or seen anyone come forward and proclaim that they owned or had seen one. So those will stay rumors until I see evidence.

        I think they may have made some prototypes wood free, but never put it in the production models.

        Ed's right. If the wood is done right and the dealer rigs the boat properly and the owner doesn't mount stuff without sealing the holes... Then everything should be okay.
