Hello, I want to install a horn on my 1972 22'. I don't want it to sound like a Honda or a Toyota horn (whimpy), but at the same time I don't want air horns. And since they don't let you test them in the store I wanted to see what you guys have installed (brand, $$?) Also, where did you install them/it on the boat?

No doubt about it... If you want the LOUDEST and longest lasting electric horn on the market, get an Ongaro double-trumpet. That is what I put on my Parker this spring.

Quality stuff, and it's ALL stainless.

    Good luck!

Mine is mounted in the front of my e-box (the little white oval piece in the picture):

This one is horendously loud, but in more of a spine tingling screetching sound. I can't remember what model it is, but I do remember on the box that it was meant to be heard over boat's outboard motors when hailing for distress while the other boat is running... [:u]

PS. Don't show the kids the horn button.... []

I can testify to the loudness of Arties horn, If it dont raise the hair on the back of your neck and make you blink, you are truly dead.

          Mike:

Nice to see that someone else has an ancient 22 footer. I have a 1970 22 and I just got through installing an ONGARO model 10050 (low Pitch - Flush mount) horn which looks similar to what Artie has on his electronics box. I installed it on the starboard side of my console. It is plenty loud and I like the fact that it is all stainless. Ditto the part about showing your kids where the button is, [:u] as I have nearly lost an eardrum and the boat is still in the side yard!

thanks guys, do you have links to where i can purchase these horns (besides overpriced Boats r us)?

I don't think I would have room for trumpets, as much as I would love to have them
