238 transom bracket

I think I may have goofed

I recently Glassed in the Tansom of my 89 238 cc and installed a gill bracket with flotation. I was only able to use the boat twice before the motor blew. It appeared to ride low in the water and the scussions leaked it also rode a bit ruff. Is it worth repowering

any advice?
