  • Looking at a 91 Mako 241

Hi, I just sold my Grady and looking at a Mako 241 with twin 150 Merc Opti's on the back. The boat looks very clean but since she's an old girl, wonder how I'll like her compared to a 20 Grady Escape. Tips and points are appreciated.

    Thanks

The 241 is an awesome boat. It has the same layout and the 231 and 261. I think it has the 8'6" beam. It also has the oversized console which you will love. AS long as the transom is soild, the floors have no soft spots, and no issues with the tank, they are great boats. Very heavy, and can handle almost all conditons. I would sell my 231 in a minute if a nice came up in my area.. Be sure to pop both inspection plates for fuel tank. One is just behind the leaning post, that is for the sending unit and the fuel feed line. The other is located under the console. That one is for the fuel fill and the vent hose. make sure there is no scent of fuel fumes when you pop the plates.

I would have it professionally surveyed. Money well spent.

They are great boats, a 261 with 2' cut off the tail end. Should peform pretty well with those 150s, mid-high 40s top out. I'm sure it will put your grady 20 to shame on the ride, those 4 feet will make a huge difference, not saything the grady rode like crap

Haha, I sold my 18 Sportsman which I would take to Butterfish Hole off BI. The pucker back was fairly high though and always had in the back of my mind of what could happen. The looks I got from the offshore captains were classic! My brother has an Escape and it rode great. Handle some nastie stuff.

The boat looks incredible but I think I'll have it surveyed. My only reason I may not buy is that I have a daughter and a potti would be great to have for her. Crazy but things I need to consider.

If you decide not to go forward with the 241 you may want to look into a later model 232 or 252. They both have the head in the center console, a euro transom and updated liner layout and console.

Seems to be to good deals on them right now. Someone on the board just bought a 252 with 70 hours on E-Tec's that sounded like a good deal.

I have 3 daughters and a wife that regularly use my 21CC. We have a porta potti in one of the storage boxes in the bow. If we are in a crowded anchorage/beach, I have a dodger I can put up for privacy. Usually though, everyone faces aft ('cept the person in the bow[]). That or a quick dip in the water solve the problem. They don't drink cold beverages like me so they don't have to go as often!
