i have some nasty spots on my gel coat inside the boat, and i happened to have a bottle of acetone in my hand. so i decided i would wipe a little on the gel coat and see what it would do. it cleaned the spots well, but i also noticed that some of the gel coat came off as well when i wiped the spots.

my gel coat was rolled on by the previous owner and not done well at all. it has numerous pits and uneven places throughout.....i was thinking that if the acetone does take gel coat off, then i could take off enough to acquire smooth fininsh, and of course re-gelcoat after the fact. any thoughts on this? it's monday morning, raining, and i am working on the boat mentally at work......i think i have a problem, .....i know i have a bad habit.

Try wet sanding a small area with 600 grit and then polish with a rubbing compound on a wheel. you might be surprised. dave.
