  • bow lift ring

I have pilling mount davits that lift the boat from the stern and bow rings. The deck cap is being pulled away from the hull when the boat hangs on the davits. The lifting force of the front lift ring appears to be carried down a piece of threaded bar to the bow tow ring (assume also attached to a stringer.) I would like to tighten this up to relieve the forces on the deck cap. Anyone familiar with this?

No it doesn't go to a stringer. It just goes to a plate that the bow eye goes thru.

We just pulled the Boweye on Hammertime's yesterday and cleaned the holes out and rebeded it.

That threadall get's kind'a of rusty. In my boat the threadall was wrung off in the fitting. I didn't reinstall the threadall on my boat as I don't plane to lift it. I did remover the broken piece and install a stainless lifting eye at the fitting. This will be used a a quick snap point for the tag end of the anchor line.

I just wanted you to beware that trying to tighten it may result in it snapping off.

The threded rod on my lifting ring was rusted to about the diamiter of a pencel. (1979) I luckily found this before suspending the boat in the shop to work underneith. I had to heat the stainless ring up to get out the twisted off section. I do know where there is a brand new ring just like ours, at a surpluss marine house, if anyone needs one. dave.

While were on this subject. I found it very interesting that I had to special order my new Boweye. I got it thru http://bosunsupplies.com/

I looked all over town to find one like it. It is 1/2in with a special spacing. I don't remember what it is now.

On Hammertimes 254 it has a 7/16in Boweye.

I have never figured out why anyone would lift a boat using the rings and bow eye. Use lift straps or bunks and problem will go away.

Chip I needed to sand and paint the intire underside and thought the strap would be in the way. When I am moving boats around with the front end loader I use straps. Your right there. dave
